Gig Wage Customer Spotlight: KATs Delivery

If you’re on the hunt for on-demand food delivery in Alabama, look no further because KATs Delivery does it all. Whether it’s on-demand, catering, and/or retail delivery, they serve both residential and commercial clients all while making sure it’s hassle-free. KATs Delivery was first conceptualized by Kathryn Jenkins aka Kat. After being diagnosed with Scleroderma, an autoimmune disability, the idea for a food delivery company was born from her inability to shop for groceries and prepare her own food. After her passing, her son Maurice Mercer who is now the CEO of KATs Delivery took it upon himself to bring her vision to life. We recently had the opportunity to interview Maurice about how his experience has been navigating a company through a pandemic and how Gig Wage has been there to help.

A Little About You:

GW: Introduce yourself and your business.

MM: My name is Maurice Mercer. I am the CEO of KATSDELIVERY.COM. I am a graduate of Troy University with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I also recently graduated Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business program in conjunction with Babson College. KATS was awarded the 2019 Small Business of the year by the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce.

GW: What is your business’s mission?

MM: We are a locally owned logistics firm specializing in food delivery from restaurants, caterers, and grocers in Alabama. We are committed to reliability, integrity, punctuality, and safe transportation of prepared food to our diners.

GW: How did you decide to start your business?

MM: KATS Delivery began as a purpose-driven vision by RN Kathryn Jenkins who at the time was suffering from Scleroderma to aide seniors and veterans with meal delivery. After her passing, I took it upon myself to take her vision to fruition.

GW: What key factors have led to your success?

MM: I attribute our success to my determination, my family, my staff, and my faith.

GW: What advice would you give businesses that employ contractors?

MM: I would advise other companies to seek the best contractors in their field by offering opportunities to earn more income, keeping up with industry standards, and treating the contractors more like partners.

GW: What will your business look like in a post-COVID-19 world?

MM: Since the onset of the pandemic, the world has seen an unprecedented increase in the usage of delivery services across the board. As variants arise and lockdowns continue, delivery apps have experienced a massive influx of customers outside of their average demographic in need of on-demand delivery services and it will continue as consumers' habits adapt to the new environment.

Your Thoughts on Us:

GW: What problem(s) were you trying to solve with our product?

MM: Gig Wage has helped my company pay contractors faster and more efficiently than I previously was able to do.

GW: How does our product service stand out from other options?

BM: The customer service response time is 2nd to none. I enjoy being able to communicate with a live person immediately via chat or email.

GW: What made you happiest about working with our company?

MM: I love the batch feature to upload and pay all contractors at once.

It is incredibly rewarding to work with companies like KATs Delivery who are purpose-driven helping those in need with meal delivery.
