Gig Wage Customer Spotlight: MenuRunners
We’d like to introduce you to Doneric Norwood, Founder and CEO of MenuRunners. Doneric changed the game of food delivery services by bringing it to remote areas that have been underserved by delivery services. Doneric sat down with us to tell us all about his business and how Gig Wage has helped MenuRunners grow.
About Founder and CEO, Doneric Norwood and MenuRunners:
GW: Introduce your business and tell us your story: How did you decide to start your business?
DN: In my early career as a Medical Sales Representative I would have daily breakfast or lunch and learns with physicians. During these times ultimately to gain more time with the physicians I would have a person from restaurant run the food and pay a fee. After having a couple of restaurants doing that for me I thought this could be more. After just over a year, left there and started in 1st under served market because at the time these markets had not been penetrated.
GW: When did you know contractors would be an important part of your workforce?
DN: From the beginning, knowing the movement involved getting food from restaurant to consumer and how sporadic it would be until the area get moving. It made more sense to have contractors that can come on and off as pleased without the burden of paying them all guaranteed wages.
GW: What makes your company different than your competitors?
DN: The customer service we provide and our go to market strategy in under served markets we focus on.
GW: Where will your company be in 5 years?
DN: Goal is to be acquired.
GW: What tools and apps do you use to run your business?
DN: Website, consumer apps, runner apps, merchant dashboard
GW: What key factors have led to your success?
DN: Grit and Continued innovation
GW: What advice do you have for businesses who employ contractors?
DN: Get into another business. Haha. (Seriously) Be prepared to expect the unexpected. Make sure you have a logistics/operations leader on the team that has experience working with contractors.
Doneric’s Thoughts on Us:
GW: What problem(s) were you trying to solve with our product or service?
DN: Eliminating writing checks, runner on-boarding, managing 1099 documents…
GW: What was it like before you had our product or service?
DN: Horrible! When you have contract runners you bring on so many of them understanding the sporadic times they are on. You want to ensure you have enough in the pipeline to cover the shifts needed. Bringing in sometimes 20–25 in a day can be time consuming. Having to do tons of manually writing checks, manually on-boarding runners, filing copies in folders and keeping records of all payouts. As the business grew the work grew even more.
GW: How does our product or service stand out from other options?
DN: Next day payment and affordability has really been a game changer in our business.
GW: What made you happiest about working with our company? What is your biggest success story?
DN: Knowing that we can get directly to the CEO in the event we are having a concern. No matter what he has always been available.
GW: What are your recommendations for other companies who are fueled by a contractor workforce?
DN: Start with Gig Wage as your payments solution, it will save you more time, money and stress in the short and long run.
Saving companies time and money are what we are all about and we are proud to work with companies like MenuRunners, who are always thinking ahead and innovating their field. What innovative business has Gig Wage helped you manage? We want to tell YOUR story next.
