Gig Wage + Microsoft ManCode: Shaping the Future of Work

Educating and inspiring the future leaders of our economy has always been a big part of our mission here at Gig Wage. We value speaking to young individuals and teaching them about today’s ever-changing workforce. These young leaders truly are the “workforce of the future”, and we want to be a part of it. Technology = Success. We want to help guide them. We want to show them how many opportunities are available to them and teach them that the gig economy allows them to customize their careers. Enter, ManCode.

ManCode, a Microsoft initiative, is a program designed to pique the interest of minority males in the technology industry. The program was created because only 2.2% of technology professionals are minority males. While there are many programs for young girls to learn about technology and coding, there had not been many designed to engage minority males. At ManCode conferences, the young boys can attend classes and learn about coding, web design, game design, app development, building LinkedIn profiles, and more.

When our CEO, Craig J. Lewis, was asked to speak at ManCode-Detroit, he saw a gap in the program for kids who may not be interested in building technology. His passion is centered around entrepreneurship, specifically in the technology industry. Because of this, he designed a course for ManCode focused on entrepreneurship, highlighting the fact that there are many other ways to get involved in the tech world besides becoming a coder. When asked why this was so important to him, Lewis said: “Sometimes all it takes is a peek into the possibility to spark a person’s passion.”

We are excited about working with ManCode and the opportunity to inspire youth with the possibilities surrounding entrepreneurship and technology. Technology is a great wealth creator for many and tech companies are hiring diverse talent daily, which is why we feel so passionate about getting youth involved in the space. We want to give them a glimpse into the fact that they too can start their own tech companies and shape their own futures.

Stay tuned for more events and collaborations between Gig Wage, Microsoft and ManCode. We are working tirelessly to make sure we bring the best programming possible to these boys and bringing ManCode to DFW. At Gig Wage, we make it our job to help shape the future of work by inspiring the future leaders of the workforce.
